Stayed on Thee

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on Thee:
because he trusteth in Thee.

// Isaiah 26:3 KJV

I grew up in a church that used the hymn based upon this scripture as a benediction every Sunday. It was a part of the soundtrack of my life, and continues to be.

I love that when I read this scripture or simply hear the word “peace”, I immediately connect it to the beautiful melody and the meaning of the lyrics.

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on Thee:
When the shadows come and darkness falls,
He giveth inward peace;
Oh, He is the only perfect resting place.
He giveth perfect peace;
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on Thee.”

Powerful words and a powerful message! I am particularly drawn to the phrase “whose mind is stayed on Thee” because my mind is so often “stayed” on everything else.

Ruminating could be a skill on my resume as I excel in thinking and processing everything, big and small. My mind is more often overloaded with care rather than rooted in peace.

To stay my mind on Christ is perfect peace.

THIS is something to ruminate on.

THIS is trust, believing Christ to be faithful to bring peace and real rest.

I want to strive to bring Christ to the forefront of my mind each day… to stay my mind on Him. Because Thou wilt bring perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Thee.
