Grief and happiness

For those who live with loss in their lives, grief and happiness often live together as two sides of one coin.

Amidst the “best day ever”, the ping of sadness introduces itself in the most inopportune moments, stinging joy with depths of grief.

“I think we just learn to live with the sadness
that will never, ever be completely erased
even by new happiness.
That is the work.
To hold both, denying neither,
letting it come when it does.”

// Jen Hatmaker

Somehow we learn to adapt to this collision of two worlds, and understand that the collision isn’t so cataclysmic as the days move on.

The hope is to best learn to deny neither, and find truth and love in the day to day that will come no matter what.
