Until then – Agape Part 6

We are on the sixth and final post of dissecting 1 Corinthians 13. I hope, if you have not read all of the posts, you will take a few moments to do so. There is so much in this chapter that we have only graced the surface of, but hopefully we dug enough to entice you to read it with fresh eyes and help you go deeper on your own.

Agape love // the ultimate connection with divinity; the perfect love worth striving for and moving towards each passing day; the love that gives completely as we stand incomplete.

Recommendation // one more read of 1 Corinthians 13… maybe in a different version then you usually read. Take some time to pull out the descriptions of agape love, write each one down and describe what it means to you to know that you have a Father who loves you like this!

Here are descriptions from the New Living Translation…

LOVE //

  • Patient
  • Kind
  • Not jealous
  • Not boastful
  • Not proud
  • Not rude
  • Does not demand its own way
  • Not irritable
  • Keeps no record of being wronged
  • Does not rejoice in injustice
  • Rejoices when truth wins
  • Never gives up
  • Never loses faith
  • Always hopes
  • Endures
  • Will last forever
  • Knows me (you) completely
  • Is the greatest of all things in this world!

Hear this —-> You do not, under any circumstances, need to earn THIS love!

In our incompleteness on this earth, we cannot comprehend a love so welcoming and so complete. As we stand in our humanity, Love unabashedly embraces us in its fullness.

And so, we arrive at the final verse in 1 Corinthians 13, which brings us to the culmination of what we need to do as we actively wait for completeness, for our humanity to become fully like Christ…

“But for right now, until that completeness, we have three things to do to lead us toward that consummation: Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13:13‬ ‭MSG‬‬

All of these point to Christ! All of these lead us directly into completeness in Him. All of these will make this life so worth living!
