Peace // Advent Week 1

It’s Christmas time & I LOVE that I can say that! I love anticipating activities & events, and that is what the Christmas season is all about.

As Pope Francis tweeted earlier today, on this first day of Advent, “the word Advent means coming. The Lord is coming. This is the root of our hope: the certainty that God’s consolation comes to us amidst the troubles of the world. Not a consolation of words, but of His presence among us.”

What a promise! As we anticipate God’s coming in the birth of Jesus this season, I have decided to write about the ultimate gifts we receive from His presence in our lives…

PEACE – HOPE – LOVE – JOY

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6 – NLT

Peace

noun – freedom from disturbance; tranquility; freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions; a pact or agreement to end hostilities between those who have been at war or in a state of enmity
Peace is assured in Jesus. In Christ we have freedom from all that troubles and creates chaos in our lives and in this world. Remember in John 16:33, Jesus tells His disciples, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Through Christ, we can also “take heart”, for in the midst of the day to day, we can lean into Him and the calm of security and peacefulness can fill our beings.

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on Thee:
When the shadows come and darkness falls,
He giveth inward peace;
Oh, He is the only perfect resting place.
He giveth perfect peace;
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on Thee.

– Written by Samuel Sebastian Wesley

As we begin this Advent season, lean in, keep your mind on Jesus and allow His perfect peace to invade your days.

Merry Christmas, peace be with you.
