Forgiven

Monica Lewinsky is in the news again.

• The Hill – Monica Lewinsky

She was in Israel to speak & be interviewed in front of an audience. What was respectfully agreed upon before the interview was completely ignored by the interviewer and she asked Monica about Clinton.

Monica promptly said she could not do this and walked off the stage.

She later tweeted to explain,

It has been TWENTY YEARS since the Clinton/Lewinsky fiasco and she is still being placed in the shadow of that circumstance!

20!

Talk about decisions and bad choices following you the rest of your life, EVEN bad choices that were not solely yours!

The world does not forgive & forget.

All of us have skeletons in our closets; some we chose and some thrust upon us.

How do we move forward in a world hell bent on reminding us about our skeletons every time we speak up?

Lewinsky has persevered through all of this through the years, but she will always have this following her.

Do you feel that way too? Is there something in your life that will not let you live carefree and fulfilled?

First, I would be clear in advising you to find a trusted friend or counselor to talk through this with. If you are holding on to something in your past, whether it is because others will not let you forget or you will not let yourself forget, you need to sort through that narrative and find the truth and the foundation of why you cannot move forward.

Even though it sounds cliche, I do believe you should “live your truth”. Do not live in the story that has been created after years of analyzing and judgment. A professional counselor can assist you in weeding out the narrative created versus the truth that occurred.

Simply, God knows your truth. He knows every single thing that takes place in our lives. There is never a skewed “fake news” version with Him.

It may be intimidating to realize that, but more so, I hope it brings you comfort. The God that created the universe knows you and cares about your narrative!

He wants you to live forgiven and he has forgotten that which binds you.

You will not stay angry with your people forever, because you delight in showing unfailing love. Once again you will have compassion on us. You will trample our sins under your feet and throw them into the depths of the ocean! – Micah 7:18-19

If we can learn anything from Monica Lewinsky, it’s that we must persevere, keep moving forward, without looking back as often as the world tries to pull us back.

We can choose to live life with the shadows always at our heel or live our true narrative, knowing we are forgiven by God.
